How the Price Guide Works

When I first launched the Price Guide in 2008, I posted a series of articles describing the process used to create custom dollar values. Since lots of people have found those descriptions helpful, I’ve posted them here essentially unchangedt.

Part I: Standard Scores

Part II: Positional Adjustments

Part III: Dollar Values

Part IV: Iterations

  1. I have to express my thanks to the creator of this website. Keep conittburing a good methods and strategies. Many people will surely improve their knowledge by reading blogs like this.

  2. I’m trying to do this process myself in an excel spreadsheet. I’m having a hard time coming up with an efficient way to select my player pool before ranking them. I know there’s a setting that allows iterations, but I’m having a tough time building the model in a way that isn’t tedious or time consuming each time I make additions or changes to the data set. Would love to hear some feedback and ideas if anyone has tackled this.

    • Hi Matthew. I received an email about your comment a little while back, and now just going through my email found it realizing I didn’t respond. Last Player Picked is up running at https://draftbuddy.com/baseball/lastplayerpicked , so that is one option for you – don’t need to recreate the wheel. I do a lot of work with spreadsheets and agree this would be somewhat difficult to get all of the steps – player pool and iterations – working in Excel.
